For what age marionettes puppets are suitable and safe?

I have collection of hand puppets, but would like to introduce kids to marionettes puppets. What age child should be to play with marionettes? Which are better to start plush marionettes or wooden string puppets?

You are right the marionettes are more complicated than hand puppets. You child should be at least 5 years old. Some marionettes especially classic wooden ones have many small details which can be detachable. Some antic marionettes are even breakable and since they are expensive you do not want them to be broken. The best choice for just introducing marionettes or string puppets (another common name) to children is soft plush marionettes, preferable animals like farm animals marionettes or friendly jungle animals.
